Betrayed princess survives abyss, births three dragonlings, reclaims stolen core five years later.
Serena Ashborne, once heir to the Vale Kingdom, is betrayed by her fiancé and stepsister who rip the Dawnfire Core from her chest and cast her into the Abyssal Rift. The artifact contains not a phoenix but a living Dawnfire Dragon whose essence allows Serena to survive and give birth to three dragonlings. Two remain hidden with her while the third is discovered by Kael Draven, sovereign of the Drakari court. After five years, Serena returns to Vale, recovers the core, eliminates her betrayers, and pursues magical relics across the Middle and High Realms, uncovering ties between her bloodline, the dragonlings, and a wider conflict among royal houses and mage orders. She learns her mother lives and plans to marry into House Wren, prompting Serena to infiltrate the western royal wedding in disguise, unaware Kael and their missing son have also arrived.
