In brief

We never ask who you are. This site has no accounts, sign-up forms, newsletters, comment boxes or advertising trackers, and it does not collect personal information about its readers.

Cloudflare

Each sheet, cover image and script is relayed by Cloudflare, whose data centres hold copies near you and screen out hostile or abusive requests. Doing so means Cloudflare necessarily sees connection details such as IP addresses, which Cloudflare's published policies govern, and it may place a cookie needed purely for security.

The server's access log

Like nearly any web host, our server writes an ordinary access log. One line per request records its time, the originating address, the path asked for, the referrer header and the user-agent your browser announces. Those lines are read only as totals: to count visits, spot pages that have broken and refuse crawlers that misbehave.

The reading stamp

Once per visit to a page, at your first turn of the mouse wheel, tap on the screen or key press, the page posts a brief note to our server. The note holds three things: which page it was, the bare domain of whichever site linked you in, and a millisecond count measured from the start of page load. That is enough to separate human readers from automated fetchers. No cookie is involved and the note carries no identifier of its own.

Cookies, storage and the archive worker

We set no cookies of our own. Your browser installs a small background script for this site, a service worker, so that certain episodes can be read piece by piece out of the publisher's archive file; it keeps nothing about you.

Episodes, onward links and the series code

Your browser collects episode footage directly from machines belonging to the studio or its distributor; to them you look like any other viewer. After you follow a retrieve link to an app, store or website, the rules of that service take over. A retrieve slip puts the series code on the clipboard solely as a result of you pressing its button, and it makes no attempt to look at whatever the clipboard holds already.
