On Christmas Eve, Reid Carter, director of a transplant center, intercepts the only compatible kidney designated for his terminally ill wife Sloane and transplants it into his mistress's mother. The mistress compounds the violation by phoning Sloane to express gratitude for a donation she never authorized. When Sloane threatens to report the theft, Reid strikes her, leaves her alone in acute medical distress, and coldly tells her she can keep waiting. The betrayal deepens when Sloane discovers the organ originated from her own deceased mother.
