A mother discovers her husband and son are mermen and embraces them before the father returns through a storm.
For six years Claire interpreted Ethan's emotional distance as indifference and five-year-old Nathan's refusal of hugs as rejection, until a death vision showed Ethan weeping pearls into the sea, exposing both as mermen. Nathan had avoided contact because excitement sprouted fins, a secret Ethan protected by claiming Claire disliked fish. When the truth surfaces, Nathan packs his backpack and pet clownfish to flee, but Claire pulls him close instead. Meanwhile Ethan, stranded overseas by a hurricane, swims the ocean home and arrives soaking wet, jealous over a man named Daniel.
