A deputy chief's mayoral bid collapses after his fiancée's father catches him cheating.
Deputy Chief Marcus treats his engagement to Evelyn as a stepping stone toward the mayor's office, counting on her father Jonathan's upcoming Defense Secretary role for leverage. Jonathan arrives early to evaluate his future son-in-law and discovers Marcus in bed with Chloe, Evelyn's closest friend and a fellow officer. A staged vehicle collision follows, during which Chloe brandishes her badge to threaten Jonathan while Marcus physically assaults him. Unaware that his victim is the powerful official whose support he needs, Marcus reveals his ruthless nature, prompting Jonathan to swear he will block the marriage and derail Marcus's political ascent.
